I started baking and making cakes in 2010 as a way to help my Mam who had been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. My Mam would bake cakes for friends and family at Christmas time, and typically she was frustrated at the thought of letting people down. I took on all of Mam's cakes, all 11 of them, with gusto and complete and utter fear. I hadn't really made cakes before, let alone on such a big scale. But I did it, thankfully. Sadly Mam passed away just after Christmas, but I know she would be extremely proud of how far I have come.
Following on from there, having being given a little confidence, I decided to make my daughter's 13th birthday cake, which I thoroughly enjoyed, followed by several cakes for family and friends. Everyone kept saying I should start my own business but I didn't feel confident enough until just recently, when I set Cakey Love up officially in February 2013.
I have no formal training, I am completely self taught through tutorials, video's and books. I love what I do, and although I am quite new to cake making, I do try my best to fulfil orders. I am honest, and up front, if I feel that a request is beyond me, I will say so, I would never want my clients feeling disappointed in any work I undertook. My aim is to make my customers happy.
